Marcelo was born and raised in Ocala, Florida, and moved to the West Coast in 2011. He earned his degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies with a minor in Human Rights from the University of Washington. Marcelo is currently enrolled in real estate classes and is considering pursuing law school.

Marcelo began his career working on the Obama campaigns and for the DNC during Healthcare Reform. He has extensive experience in the legalized cannabis industry and the labor movement. Most recently, Marcelo served as the Organizing Director for the entire California Democratic Party during the 2022 election cycle. In his current role as Community Engagement Director, Marcelo is responsible for intaking community queries, collaborating with community leaders and stakeholders, and maintaining a strong presence at community-held events and meetings. He is passionate about demystifying the engagement process for every community member with the support of his dedicated community engagement team.

Outside of work, Marcelo enjoys sports, particularly soccer and both college and NFL football. He is also a fan of Star Wars and Marvel, a cinema buff, and has a love for music from all around the world. Most importantly, Marcelo cherishes his role as a father. He met his wife, Jennifer, while working on the Obama campaigns in Florida, and they are now the proud parents of two San Diego-born daughters, Cecilia and Mila. As the first-generation son of Ecuadorian immigrants, Marcelo is deeply passionate about immigrant relations and advocating for posterity.
