Maykent is a purpose-driven student fellow, passionate about environmental justice, energy policy, and social policy. Maykent is currently pursuing her Master of International Affairs from the University of California San Diego and obtained a B.A in Anthropology with a minor in Latin American Studies from San Diego State University. Through her studies, Maykent has had the opportunity to travel and study at the University of Oxford in England and more recently, at the IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, where she acquired consulting experience with the certified B corporation, Emzingo U.
Before joining Supervisor Vargas in the County of San Diego, Maykent was a graduate student researcher at the Center for US-Mexico Studies at the School of Global Policy and Strategy. Prior to this experience, Maykent was a social worker in the foster care division at the County of Imperial where she engaged in policy practice and became inspired to learn more about social policy, equity, and access
