  San Diego County’s First Supervisorial District covers approximately 256 square miles and is celebrated for its vibrant cultural and binational connections. The district includes both urban and rural areas, with significant portions of coastline and unincorporated regions.

• What is the population of District 1?

  641,435 people.

• What are the boundaries of San Diego County’s District 1?

  The boundaries of San Diego County’s District 1 include the South Bay region and parts of the U.S.-Mexico border area. The district covers Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, and San Ysidro, along with unincorporated communities like Bonita, Otay Mesa, and the Tijuana River Valley.

  The district stretches:

  • South to the U.S.-Mexico border
  • West to the Pacific Ocean
  • North through parts of San Diego including Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, and Sherman Heights
  • East to rural areas like Bonita and parts of Otay Ranch

  District 1 is known for its binational connections, serving communities on both sides of the border and addressing cross-border issues such as environmental protection, trade, and public health.

  Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, East Village, Golden Hill, Grant Hill, Lincoln Park, Memorial, Mount Hope, Mountain View, Nestor, Sherman Heights, Southcrest, Stockton and unincorporated areas in South County, including Bonita, Sunnyside, Lincoln Acres, East Otay Mesa, La Presa and parts of Spring Valley.

• Is Nora Vargas still my District 1 County Supervisor?

  As of January 6, 2025, at 12 p.m. Nora Vargas is no longer the elective representative of San Diego County District 1.

• Who will fill Nora Vargas’ seat and when?

  The Board of Supervisors will consider options for filling the vacancy following San Diego County Charter, Section 401.4 and Board Policy A-39.

  The Board of Supervisors will meet on January 14, 2025 to consider the options. Please see the agenda posted online. 

• Can I request a proclamation from District 1?

  Can I request a proclamation from District 1?
  No. If you would like to request a proclamation from the County, please contact the office of Vice Chair Terra Lawson-Remer.

  You can also contact the County’s General Administration Office.

• Can I request a grant from District 1?

  No. The District 1 grants funds have been expended for this fiscal year. The next round of grant funds will be available for distribution by the incoming District 1 Supervisor in the next fiscal year.

• Why is a staff needed in the District 1 Office?

  It is important that our County government continues to deliver excellent service and support to the District 1 community during the transition of their elected leadership. The District 1 office staff are County of San Diego employees and will continue to meet the needs of residents, businesses, nonprofits, and others. Anyone who lives, works, visits, or does business in District 1 can still rely on the office to provide valuable County information, and receive and respond to their requests.
